Outlying and annexed late in the day, the 16th arrondissement, along with the 8th, is considered one of the rich and bourgeois neighborhoods on the Right Bank of Paris.
It is both quiet, as it is highly residential, and very touristy due to its many must-see Parisian sites, such as the Arc de Triomphe, the Trocadéro (from which you can see the Eiffel Tower), and its numerous museums.
This arrondissement is also the greenest in Paris, with the immense expanse of the Bois de Boulogne.
Here are some tips for a successful family day out in the 16th arrondissement of Paris.
A morning of visits in the 16th arrondissement…
To start your family day off right in the 16th arrondissement, enjoy delicious pastries from Maison Lenôtre,
located at 48 avenue Victor Hugo.
Walk up the avenue towards Place de l’Etoile (between the 16th, 17th, and 8th arrondissements). In the center stands the Arc de Triomphe. A Napoleonic symbol of victory, it also houses the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, in honor of the victims of the First World War.
It is located on the major Parisian axis that runs from the Louvre Pyramid to the Arche de la Défense, passing by the Obelisk of Concorde. Can you still see these monuments in a row?
Note: It is possible to climb to its terrace, located 49 meters high, to take in the view of Paris.
Free access for those under 26.
On Place de l’Etoile.

Next, walk up Avenue Kléber towards the Trocadéro.
The Palais de Chaillot was built on the former Palais du Trocadéro during the 1937 World’s Fair. Originally temporary, and destined to disappear after the Exposition, its buildings are typical of the neoclassical architecture (rather close to a totalitarian aesthetic) of the interwar period. From the Esplanade des Droits de l’Homme, you’ll have the best view for taking a photo in front of the Eiffel Tower (across the Seine, in the 7th arrondissement), located in line with the Palais du Trocadéro, as well as the Champs de Mars.
Place du Trocadéro.
Next, in the right wing of the Palais de Chaillot, embark with your crew for the National Maritime Museum. This magnificent site houses treasures and a magical world for budding little explorers, thirsting for faraway adventures and filled with exotic dreams.
At 17 Place du Trocadéro and Place du 11 Octobre.
A fun afternoon with the family in the 16th arrondissement…
So, have lunch at one of the friendliest bistros in Paris, Les Marches. It’s so named because it’s located at the bottom of the grand staircase leading to the Palais de Tokyo and the Museum of Modern Art. These two important Parisian museums are well worth a visit for art lovers.
Picturesque, typically Parisian surroundings. In a relaxed, family atmosphere, savor local specialties of impeccable quality. All served in generous portions (unlimited fries!) For adults, a special mention goes to the rum baba. The prices are as friendly as the welcome (arguably the best value in the arrondissement).
At 6 rue de la Manutention.
Then, head to the Jardin d’Acclimatation! A true paradise for children spanning 19 hectares located in the heart of the Bois de Boulogne. Historically, it was a zoo between 1860 and 1930, a place intended to serve as a transitional space, to acclimatize them to the climate before being exhibited. It housed both “wild” animals and human beings from the colonies.
Since 1950, it has become an amusement park. It now boasts gigantic playgrounds (with aquatic areas for the summer), fairgrounds with rides, farm animals and stables, vegetable gardens, and greenhouses.
In the Bois de Boulogne.

Want to have some more fun? In spring or summer, after a walk in the woods, you can rent a boat from Chalet des Îles for half an hour to two hours. You don’t have to be an expert navigator to get the hang of rowing, just don’t get seasick. Laughter guaranteed!
Around the Bois de Boulogne lake.
A fun evening in the 16th arrondissement…
How about an exotic dinner trip? Then head to Andia, located in the former La Muette train station. This incredible venue boasts a festive atmosphere that transports you to South America, with Latin music and colorful dishes.
Note: On Sunday lunchtimes, there’s a spectacular brunch with entertainment for the little ones!
At 19 Chaussée de la Muette.
Finally, if you’re not too exhausted, a great way to round off a family day in the 16th arrondissement… Go bowling together at Bowling Foch. It’s a great opportunity to challenge the kids on the lane while enjoying a drink in a very festive atmosphere!
NB: the venue also offers billiards and table soccer.
At 1 avenue Foch in the basement, enter via the metro station.
